Why Free does not work
This is a continuation of my previous post which I also posted on on the warrior forum which has an Alexa ranking of 139, meaning it is popular place to discuss Internet business. Now I am talking about discussions, not just somewhere to post a comment. There are many differing opinions but in general their is a realisation that free is not good for business. One comment was from someone who was prepared to give away a million copies of his software, just to have a huge list to market too, this is a big mistake, if he had only charged $1 he could have put a million dollars in the bank. The old saying is a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush springs to mind
There is no such thing as a free lunch, if you want something you need to be prepared to pay for it, if you want people to work with you you want a commitment and someone will always perform better if money is at stake.
Some years ago when I was running a Pub I discovered that by linking staff payments to the weekly takings the staff loyalty and turnover increased, and the staff also started coming up with ideas on how to attract more customers. One idea was to replace buy one get one free with 4 glasses for the price of 3 and it worked great.
